Crochet Hat and Scarf

I made this hat and scarf set for my son-in-law for Christmas.

I seem to have this uncontrollable desire to provide warm outerwear for my daughter’s family. They are going to be living in South Korea where it is cold during winter. I know this from endless episodes of “MASH”. Yes, I am old enough to have watched the first and the last episode when they first aired.

The hat pattern is one from Red Heart Yarns. It’s called “Got You Covered #2”. I got it over 20 years ago. It was one of those free patterns you get when you buy yarn. I have made countless number of these hats. It was the first wearable crochet item I ever made.

I paired the hat with the “Hounds Tooth Scarf” pattern by Elk Studio. You can find the pattern on their site .

This scarf looks much more complicated than it is. I like the masculine look of it. You carry the yarn you’re not using along the rows so you don’t have to cut your yarn at the end of each row. If I had to tie off each row I would never have made this.

The black and gold look so regale together. They are the colors of the Army football team. It was not easy finding a gold that looked gold and not yellow or orange. This is Lion Brand “Vanna’s Choice” color 158 Mustard. Yes, mustard not gold, go figure. The black is my go to “I Love This Yarn” from Hobby Lobby.

Baby girl modeled them for me since Mr. R wasn’t around to do so.
