Moving on to a New Home

Butterfly Summer Dress 1

This little outfit has moved on to a new home. I made it for little girl last summer before I started to blog. I love the color so much. It reminds me of the home where I grew up. The blue sky reaching down to touch the ocean.

Florida was a wonderful place to be a kid. I spent most summers under the lifeguard stand on the beach. Swimming, eating hot dogs and snow cones, building sand castles that was my childhood. Then I moved to Texas and a new home. Life here is very different but I wouldn’t trade it or my family for anything Florida has to offer.

Look at that face. It makes you want to kiss it all over. I am such a blessed grandmother.

The dress was made from the “Annette Reversible Sundress”  by Nanoo Designs and the shorts are Oliver and S “Puppet Show” shorts. You can find links for them over on the left sidebar.

My daughter looses ribbon ties in the laundry so I altered the dress pattern to include self ties. I drafted the tie piece from the Scientific Seamstress’ Reversible Romper. I just drew out the back ties and added them to both the back and front of the sundress. It still could have been reversible this way. I didn’t make this dress reversible because I liked the blue butterfly fabric so much.

This was an easy sew. I made it in a Sunday afternoon. For me, that is very fast.

Now, this little outfit is on vacation with my great niece at Disney World. I love that we pass our handmades around in this family. I wonder how many little girls will wear this dress before it is worn out. With RTW we are lucky if a garment makes it through a season. Good reason to sew our own.

On a family note, oldest daughter is now safe with her family in South Korea. The last few months have been a whirlwind of packing, getting the house in shape and sold, and moving. We helped all we could and kept her two boys here frequently. Even though I will sorely miss them for the next 2 or 3 years, I am happy they are all together. They are happy. Because they are, I can be happy too.
